The great challenge for preaching today is to remain faithful to biblical exposition in the face of contemporary calls for felt-need homilies.  Because God is our source of good, we do well to point our people to him and not cheap substitutes.  Lest we be guilty of digging our own wells and serving our congregations from broken cisterns, we must seek to exalt the sufficiency of Christ as revealed in Holy Scripture.  Are you guilty of nurturing your flock or family on a steady diet of soft soap:

“If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.”

-C.S. Lewis
