I based this sketch of a young C.S. Lewis on the cover image of the September 8, 1947, edition of Time Magazine.

I wanted to illustrate – through a creative use of the shaded area of his portrait – two of his most popular inventions: Screwtape and Aslan. I have also included the logo from the pub, The Eagle and the Child, where he would discuss his writings with the Inklings (J.R.R. Tolkien and others).
