Olivia Goldhill, writing for Quartz, asks the question “Why are so many smart people such idiots about philosophy?” Her pointed question is aimed at Bill Nye, America’s favorite “edutainer.” I’d encourage you to read the post to see her full review, which I linked to last week in the Weekend Worldview Reader.

Goldhill points out that, for as intelligent as Nye is, he is completely in the dark regarding the nature of philosophy. More importantly, he is naive about the philosophical assumptions that undergird his approach to science. This serves as a good reminder, as Dr. John Lennox often points out, that every statement from a scientist is not a statement of science.
