In the spring of 2009 we held three events at UofL to investigate the possibility of starting the campus church. The three events dealt with the topics: What I Hate About Religion, What I’ve Learned from Atheism, and What I Love About the Gospel. This “blog book” is the transcript of my sermon for What I Love About the Gospel.
In the fall of 2009 we launched the campus church. In preparing for the teaching series for the fall, I was convicted that our evangelistic efforts should be properly motivated by a desire for God’s glory. My initial thoughts for our first few services was to beat people over the head with the Great Commission and hope that something good would happen. I truly felt led to present “Misio Dei” as a message of God’s glory as our highest goal. Instead of a spunky evangelism pep-talk, I sought to paint a picture of a God-centered life as the best method for reaching UofL students.
