I Need Glasses. Maybe You Do Too
AM was busy signing books when I picked up his glasses and snidely said, “Let’s see how bad his vision is.” When I put them on all of the signage in the back of the bookstore suddenly came into focus. I stopped laughing. That’s when I realized I need glasses.
The next day I made an appointment with an eye doctor. It didn’t take long for him to figure out that I’m near sighted. It’s not too bad, but with the right lenses I don’t have to strain so much to read things that are far away. I picked out some hipster looking black frame glasses, placed my order, and plan to join the four-eye-club sometime next week when they arrive.
But that got me thinking. Spiritually speaking, have things gotten a little out of focus for you. Maybe you’re near sighted and are having trouble seeing things that far off. Maybe you’re far sighted and struggle to see things up close.
The Bible says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, it’s how we begin to clearly see and understand the ways of God. If our spiritual vision is blurry, we can probably trace it back to some way in which we aren’t properly fearing the Lord. So, do a little soul-searching. Whatever it is that is keeping you from walking in the fear of the Lord, own it, confess it, and get back to seeing things in 20/20.
