A DeWitt Family Update

My family and I absolutely love the students of Cedarville University. That’s what makes an announcement like this bittersweet. We’ve loved our time serving students at Cedarville over the last six years. Truth is, they’ve really ministered to us as much if not more than we have to them.

After a lot of thought and prayer, I have accepted a position with my longtime friend Rick Melson who left Cedarville last year to serve as president of SBU (Southwest Baptist University) in Bolivar, MO. I’m excited about Dr. Melson’s vision for the school and becoming part of his team. I will serve as a Senior Fellow, as Executive Director of the Center for Worldview Analysis and Cultural Engagement, and as Professor of Worldview and Culture.

One of the first projects I will be working on is the development of a certificate in worldview studies to be offered both on campus and online. Though my family and I will stay based out of our home in Ohio, I will fly to Missouri regularly to teach on campus and speak in chapel. Last but not least, I will lead a class on C.S. Lewis annually to take place in England and Ireland. Stay tuned for details if you would like to join us.

I am thankful to Thomas White, president of Cedarville University, for his support of me and my family throughout our time at Cedarville. From beginning to end, Dr. White has consistently been both pastoral and gracious. My family and I have many fond memories of our time on the Cedarville campus. I love my students I’ve taught there and the amazing faculty and staff I’ve had the opportunity to serve with.

My position was announced today (Monday, June 13, 2022) by SBU during the week of the SBC convention. While we are sad about the closing of one chapter, we are certainly excited about the opening of a new one. Thank you for letting me share a personal update about our family. Please pray for us in this new endeavor. Thank you!
