I’m Good

There’s a quiet testimony tucked inside this new Jelly Roll song, like gratitude whispered in the midst of a gathering storm. What strikes me most is the language of deliverance running through the lines: “I found my way out that place” and “you found me in the dark and I found the light” are two great examples. Words that echo the language of grace, of being pulled from a pit not by willpower alone but by something, or better, Someone, who met us where we needed to be found. The lyrics don’t shy away from the wilderness experience: the temptation, the wasted seasons, the friends who wounded us and we needed to express the forgivness they never asked for.

This isn’t a song about having it all figured out. It’s about mercy meeting us on a broken road giving us the perspective to begin seeing all the good things that are right in front of us. It has an almost worship-like chorus that turns feelings of mere survival into celebration. Some parts read almost like a psalm of thanksgiving: eyes opened, a new song given, and a soul that shouldn’t still be standing but somehow is. Maybe that’s the invitation here, to wake up, to notice the breath still in our lungs, and to let that be reason enough to say, today, “I’m good.”
